Croft Trellis is one of the subtler geometrics in Mulberry's Small Prints collection, a neat lattice printed on a viscose and linen ground rather than the flora and fauna that fill most of the range. It has a crisp, architectural quality next to the collection's looser florals, and it is a useful pattern to have on hand when a scheme needs a small-scale geometric rather than another sprig or stripe.

The composition is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen. It is 137 centimetres wide, with a 15 centimetre vertical repeat and a 15 centimetre horizontal one, a tight, even square repeat. It is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Five colourways: Indigo and Old Blue are the two blues, one deep and one soft; Green and Ochre are the warmer pair; and Russet is the most autumnal of the five.

We would use it for curtains in a bedroom or a dressing room, on a headboard, or as a lining that shows only at the leading edge of a stronger curtain. It also makes a good small-scale companion to Hedgerow, the larger print in the same Small Prints collection, used on a second piece in the same room to give the eye some relief. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: a repeat this small needs little matching, so estimate quantity much as you would a plain, though it is still worth cutting on the straight grain for a crisp lattice line and matching it across any visible seam. The viscose content means it will crease if folded, so have it delivered rolled rather than folded flat. Dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron.
