Duck Pond on linen is the fabric companion to the wallpaper of the same name, the same mallards and reeds printed here on a pure linen ground rather than paper. Linen gives the design a drier, more textured surface than the smooth paper version, and a little of the irregularity that makes a print look as though it has been in the house for years rather than bought last season. It belongs to the Country Walk collection, Mulberry's ode to the English countryside.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 138 centimetres wide, with a 37 centimetre vertical repeat and a 69 centimetre horizontal one, and it is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Two colourways: Teal is the cooler, cleaner version, good in a bathroom or a boot room; Jewel is richer, mixing several colours through the reeds and the birds, and it is the one we would choose for a room that wants a bit more warmth.

We would hang it as curtains in a kitchen or a country hall, or use it for a loose cover on a small sofa in a garden room. It also makes a cheerful Roman blind above a butler's sink. A making-up note: pure linen moves a little with humidity, so allow extra in the hem of a curtain and let it settle before the final hem is set. Allow one 37 centimetre repeat per drop for matching. Loose covers should be pre-shrunk by your maker before cutting. It must be dry cleaned, not washed.
