Duck Pond is a wallpaper straight from the edge of an English village green: mallards and reeds drawn in a loose, storybook hand and printed on a smooth non-woven paper, wider than Mulberry's usual roll at 70 centimetres. It is a picture rather than a pattern in the strict sense, and it works best where there is room to let the whole scene register, rather than chopped up behind furniture.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 38.5 centimetre vertical repeat. There are four colourways: Indigo is the deep, moody one; Teal is fresher and cooler; Emerald/Stone pairs a rich green with a pale neutral ground; and Jewel is the richest, mixing several colours at once. Indigo is the one we reach for in a study or a downstairs cloakroom that wants a bit of drama.
We would paper a whole bathroom or a boot room in it, where the countryside theme feels at home, or use a single wall behind a bed with the rest of the room in a plain colour drawn from the ground. It is also good in a child's bedroom, where the ducks are a story as much as a decoration. The matching Duck Pond fabric is printed on pure linen. Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the exact paste and match. Because the roll is wider than usual, a 4 metre wall needs only around six strips rather than eight, so a standard 10 metre roll at three drops per roll covers it in two rolls. Buy from one batch.
