End Paper takes its name and its look from the marbled sheets bookbinders have always used to line the covers of a good book, a swirling, veined pattern printed on a smooth non-woven paper. It has none of the literalness of a floral: the marks flow and pool the way ink does on water, which gives a room a subtle, painterly quality rather than an obvious pattern. It is the most unusual design in the Country Walk wallpapers.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 48 centimetre vertical repeat. There are four colourways: Blue/Sand is the coolest and most watery; Lovat is a mossy green marbling; Teal sits between the two; and Red/Green is the warmest and most traditional pairing. Order two samples and view them together, since a marbled pattern like this reads differently at different times of day.
We would paper a study or a small library in it, where the marbling echoes the books on the shelves, or use it in a cloakroom where a painterly pattern rewards a closer look. It also works well as a backdrop to a run of botanical prints in a hall. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's paste and match instruction, since a marbled pattern needs care at the joins to keep the flow looking continuous. On a standard 10 metre roll, expect around three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall needs two rolls, three to allow for returns. Buy from one batch.
