Felbrigg is the most animated of the four weaves in Mulberry's Croft collection, where Croft itself is a herringbone, Seaton a textured semi-plain and Monroe a quiet plain; Felbrigg is the one with informal character, its yarns dyed and woven so colour moves across the cloth in loose, playful sweeps rather than sitting inside a fixed check or stripe. The viscose gives it a soft lustre and a fluid hand; the linen and cotton keep it dry enough to hold its shape.

The composition is 55 per cent viscose, 27 per cent linen, 12 per cent polyester and 6 per cent cotton. It is 138 centimetres wide with a 26.5 centimetre vertical repeat and a 34.5 centimetre horizontal one, and it is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Five colourways: Woodsmoke is the quiet neutral; Teal/Chestnut and Teal/Spice both use teal as the base with a warm second colour moving through it; Red/Blue is the boldest; and Tea Rose/Sage is the softest, a pink and a green that read almost as one.

We would use it on a pair of curtains in a room that wants some movement without a set pattern, or on a sofa where a plain would feel flat and a floral too much. It is a good match for the plainer weaves in the same Croft family, Seaton or Monroe, on a second piece in the same room, and it sits comfortably next to any of the Garden Party florals. A making-up note: because the colour movement is not a fixed repeat in the usual sense, allow a little extra for your maker to balance the colour across a pair of curtains or a sofa front, and ask to see the cloth unrolled before cutting so you can choose where the strongest colour falls.
