Follies is a printed linen built around the ornamental garden temples and pavilions the English country house likes to scatter across its grounds, drawn as a scenic rather than a repeating motif and set onto a wide, 147 centimetre linen ground so the composition has room to unfold. It is one of the more architectural prints in the Long Weekend collection, with a stillness that suits a formal room, and it has a documentary quality closer to an old engraving than a modern print.

It is 100 per cent linen, 147 centimetres wide, with a 90 centimetre vertical repeat and a horizontal repeat of 147 centimetres, the full cloth width. It is recommended for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. There are two colourways: Plum, deep and atmospheric, good for an evening room, and Emerald, brighter and greener, which suits a garden room or a conservatory rather better.

We would hang this as a single pair of curtains in a dining room or a garden room, where the scenic composition has the height to read properly, or use it on a single chair rather than a whole suite. Keep the rest of the room in plains so the folly has somewhere to stand out, and avoid mixing it with another large-scale print. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
