Forest Ducks sends the house's familiar duck motif into a woodland setting, birds moving through drawn foliage rather than flying free across a plain ground, printed on a viscose and linen union. The viscose gives the cloth a soft lustre and a fuller drape than a plain linen, while the linen content keeps the surface dry enough to take the print cleanly. It is a busier, more layered composition than the original Flying Ducks, with real depth to the drawing.

The composition is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, 138 centimetres wide, with a 53 centimetre vertical repeat and a 69 centimetre horizontal one. It is recommended for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. There are three colourways: Blue, cool and graphic; Parchment, pale and warm, closer to a neutral than a colour; and Lovat, a soft, tweedy green. Parchment is the one we use when the print needs to sit quietly in a busy scheme.

We would hang it as a pair of curtains in a hall, a study or a bedroom, or use it as a loose cover on a single chair rather than a whole sofa, since the pattern carries plenty of interest on its own. It pairs naturally with a Country Walk check on a cushion or a window seat. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: with a 53 centimetre repeat, allow one extra repeat per drop and ask your maker to keep the ducks and foliage running consistently up a pair of curtains. The viscose content gives good drape but will crease if folded, so have it delivered rolled. Dry clean only.
