Forest Leaves is a printed linen with a woodland canopy of overlapping leaves drawn in a loose, botanical hand, more forest floor than formal garden. It is printed on a pure linen ground, so the surface has the dry, slightly irregular texture that makes a print look settled rather than new. The scale is generous, with a 76 centimetre repeat, and the leaves overlap enough that the design reads as one continuous cover rather than a series of motifs.
The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 126 centimetres wide, with a 76 centimetre vertical repeat and a 63 centimetre horizontal one, tested to 14,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, and recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. There is one colourway, Indigo/Teal, a deep blue-green combination that reads as almost tonal in low light and comes alive in daylight.
We would hang it as curtains in a study or a garden room, where the woodland pattern suits the view, and use it more sparingly on upholstery, a single chair rather than a whole sofa given the moderate rub count. It also makes a good bedspread in a room with plain linen walls. Pair it with a plain wool or one of the Westerly stripes. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
A making-up note: with a 76 centimetre repeat you will need a full extra repeat per drop, so order generously and ask your maker to centre a leaf cluster at the leading edge of each curtain. Pure linen moves a little with humidity, so leave curtains to hang before the final hem is set. Dry clean only, and keep it out of strong sun.
