Garden Party is the collection's namesake wallpaper, the same full-blown English border as the fabric, printed on non-woven paper at a scale that fills a wall the way a herbaceous bed fills a garden. The flowers are drawn loosely, more painted than botanical, and there is enough leaf and stem between the blooms for the pattern to read as one continuous planting rather than a repeat. It is a paper for a room you want to feel dressed.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 53 centimetre vertical repeat, so it is a large-scale pattern and the repeat will cost you a little more waste than a sprig. Three colourways: Blue/Green is cool and fresh; Antique sits on a warm, aged ground that suits old furniture and dark timber; and Soft Red/Green is the faded, warmer version we would use in a drawing room. Order a sample of two and pin them up together.
We would paper a whole bedroom in it and keep the bed in plain linen, or use it on one wall of a dining room with the rest painted in a colour drawn from the ground. It also does a small room well, a cloakroom or a dressing room, where a big pattern is a pleasure rather than a risk. The matching fabric is printed on a cotton and linen union. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: non-woven papers are usually pasted to the wall and hung dry; confirm the paste and match on the leaflet in the roll and let a decorator centre the first drop on the focal wall so the pattern is balanced either side of a chimney breast or bed. On a standard 10 metre roll allow three drops at 2.4 metres with a 53 centimetre repeat, so a 4 metre wall wants three rolls, four to be safe. Buy from one batch.
