Grand Mulberry Tree is the brand's own emblem turned into a wallpaper: a branching, heraldic tree drawn at a scale that fills a wall the way a specimen tree fills a lawn, printed on a smooth non-woven paper. It is the most emblematic design in the Modern Country collection, and it carries itself with the quiet authority of something that has always belonged on an English wall, half botanical study and half coat of arms.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 26 centimetre vertical repeat, a medium scale that keeps the branches legible without overwhelming a smaller room. There are two colourways: Charcoal is dense and dramatic, almost black against its ground, while Stone is pale and quiet, a paper you could live with in almost any room in the house. Charcoal is the one for a study or a downstairs cloakroom; Stone for a bedroom or a landing.

We would paper the back wall of a study or a library in Charcoal, with the joinery painted to match, or use Stone through a whole bedroom with plain linen at the window. It also makes a handsome single wall behind a bed or a console, with the rest of the room left plain. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match, and have your decorator centre the trunk of the tree on the main wall so the branches sit symmetrically either side of a chimney breast or a bed. As a rule of thumb, a standard 10 metre roll gives three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes three rolls. Buy from a single batch.
