Grasses draws a stand of tall, wind-bent seed heads across a metallic silver-leaf ground, part of Mulberry's more opulent Imperial range rather than the country prints elsewhere in the house. The grasses themselves are drawn simply, almost as a silhouette, which lets the silver ground do most of the work: it shifts and catches the light as you move past it in a way a matt paper never can. It is a paper for a room that wants a little glamour after dark.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 61 centimetre vertical repeat and a 52 centimetre horizontal one. There is one colourway, Silver Leaf, a cool metallic ground with the grasses picked out in a deeper tone. It photographs and lights very differently depending on the fitting, so see a sample under lamplight before you commit a whole room to it.

We would use it in a dining room or a small sitting room where the walls need to do some of the evening lighting's work, or on the back wall of an alcove that wants to catch a picture light. Keep the rest of the room restrained, plain velvet or wool, so the metallic ground stays the focus. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's paste and match instruction, since a metallic ground shows any misalignment at the seams more than a matt paper does. On a standard 10 metre roll, expect around three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall needs three rolls. Buy from one batch to keep the sheen consistent.
