Heirloom Sprig is the smallest pattern in the collection, a tiny scattered sprig with a 7.5 centimetre repeat that reads as a texture from across the room and reveals itself as flowers only when you are close. It is printed on a non-woven paper with a smooth, matt surface. Papers like this are the quiet workers of a house: they make a bedroom feel finished, they warm up a corridor, and they take a big print in the same room without competing with it.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven and 52 centimetres wide, with that 7.5 centimetre vertical repeat, so there is almost no waste in matching. There are six colourways: Denim and Indigo are the blues, one soft and one deep; Plaster is a warm, pale neutral; Lovat is a tweedy green; Aqua/Green and Teal/Spice are two-colour versions with a bit more going on. Indigo is the one for a north-facing room that needs some depth.
We use small sprigs on all four walls of a guest bedroom, in a bathroom above panelling, and inside a cupboard or a dressing room where a full pattern would be too much. It sits happily under a bigger Garden Party or Mulberry Garden curtain, and it is a good background for pictures. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, which makes it a forgiving paper for a competent amateur, but check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match. With a repeat this short you can plan on four full drops from a standard 10 metre roll at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls; buy a third if there are awkward returns. Keep to one batch.
