Landscape is a woven jacquard from the Modern Country collection, its name a fair description of what it does in a room: a soft, broken texture in blended yarns that behaves like a painted middle distance rather than a pattern with a repeat you can point to. The cotton and viscose give the surface a slight sheen; the wool, acrylic and nylon add body and a little resilience, so the cloth has more weight in the hand than a plain print.

The composition is 45 per cent cotton, 27 per cent viscose, 11 per cent wool, 9 per cent acrylic and 8 per cent nylon. It is 140 centimetres wide; no fixed repeat is recorded, since the colour moves across the cloth rather than tiling in the usual sense. Tested to 25,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, it is suitable for curtains and general upholstery as well as bedspreads. Two colourways: Teal/Spice sets a blue-green against a warm rust; Red/Plum is the deeper, more autumnal pairing of the two.

We would put this on a pair of wing chairs or a sofa in a room with plain walls and a single strong picture, letting the cloth's own movement do the decorating, or use it for curtains in a study where a busier pattern would compete with the books. It sits well against a plain wool or a small check. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: because there is no fixed repeat, matching is more a matter of balancing colour than lining up a motif, so ask your maker to lay the cloth out and choose the most even placement before cutting for a pair of curtains or a sofa front. Dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron.
