Marquee Stripe is a broad, even stripe on paper, the tent stripe of a summer party turned into a wallcovering, printed on a smooth non-woven paper. It is a plain, straight stripe with no pattern repeat, so it hangs simply and the effect in a room is orderly: the walls seem taller, the furniture in front of it looks more deliberate, and a floral in the same room has something to stand against. It is the collection's tailored paper.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with no repeat to match, which means no waste between drops. There are six colourways: Indigo and Blue, one deep and one fresh; Plaster and Parchment, the two warm neutrals that sit almost as a texture; and Lovat and Sage, a tweedy green and a softer one. Parchment is our first choice for a bathroom; Indigo for a hall where you want a bit of drama.
We use it in halls and on staircases, where a stripe helps a tall, narrow space, in bathrooms above a painted dado, and on the walls of a child's bedroom under a Garden Party or Firle Meadow blind. It is also a good paper for a small study with dark furniture. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: non-woven papers are normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match. The critical thing with a stripe is a plumb first drop, so have your decorator set a vertical line and work away from it in both directions from the focal wall. With no repeat, a standard 10 metre roll gives four drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Buy from one batch.
