Marquise Damask Flock is the most opulent paper in the group, a grand, symmetrical damask built up in a flocked texture so the motif stands slightly proud of the ground and catches the light as you pass it. It is printed on a non-woven backing, which keeps the paper stable and straightforward to hang despite the richness of the surface. This is a paper for a room that wants a little theatre: a dining room, a cloakroom, or the back of a bed.

The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 72.5 centimetre repeat both vertically and horizontally, so the damask is generously scaled and reads as a single grand motif rather than a busy repeat. There is one colourway, Gold/Plum, a deep aubergine ground with the damask picked out in a warm, gilded tone. It is the kind of paper we use sparingly but decisively.

We would paper a dining room in it, ideally with the woodwork picked out in a dark, matching colour, or use it on a single wall behind a bed with plain linen either side. It is also very good in a small cloakroom, where its richness is a pleasure rather than an overstatement. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.

Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's paste and match instruction, since a flocked surface is less forgiving of a clumsy join than a flat print. Assuming a standard 10 metre roll, a 4 metre wall with a 72.5 centimetre repeat will need three to four rolls. Buy from one batch.
