Martock Sprig is the wallpaper version of the collection's small cotton print: a scattered sprig on a plain ground, printed on a smooth non-woven paper. Even with a 27 centimetre repeat it reads as an all-over texture from across the room, and it does what a sprig paper has always done in an English bedroom, which is make the walls feel dressed without asking for attention. It is easy to live with and easy to put things against.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 27 centimetre vertical repeat. There are six colourways: Blue is the classic bedroom one; Parchment is the pale, warm neutral; Aqua and Moss are the fresh greens, one cooler, one deeper; Teal/Green is a two-colour version; and Red/Green matches the fabric and the Firle print. Parchment is the colourway we would use where the paper has to sit behind a lot of pictures.
We use it in guest bedrooms, in bathrooms above a painted dado, in dressing rooms and along the corridors of a house where the main rooms carry the big patterns. It pairs with the Martock Sprig fabric on a headboard or a blind, and with Garden Party at the window if you want a layered, country look. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, which is quick; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match. With a 27 centimetre repeat you should get four drops from a standard 10 metre roll at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls, three if there are windows or returns to cut around. Keep to one batch.
