Meadow Linen is a woven texture from the Heirloom Weaves group, a linen and rayon cloth with a fine, subtly patterned structure rather than a printed motif, closer in spirit to a damask ground than a plain. The rayon gives the weave a soft lustre that shifts with the light, while the linen keeps the hand dry and substantial. We think of it as a background fabric, one that supports a scheme rather than announcing itself. It is a quiet, considered cloth built to last rather than to shout.

The composition is 65 per cent linen and 35 per cent rayon, 130 centimetres wide, with a 39 centimetre vertical repeat and a 63 centimetre horizontal one governing the weave structure. It is recommended for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. There is one colourway, Soft Blue, a chalky, muted tone that behaves almost as a neutral against most other colours in a scheme.

We would use it for a pair of curtains in a sitting room or a bedroom, where its subtle pattern gives a plain-seeming room some depth, or upholster a chair in it beside a stronger print or check. It is a good foil for anything with more colour or pattern in it. It also works well as a simple roman blind where a plain would look flat. A making-up note: because the pattern is woven rather than printed, matching is a matter of keeping the weave running true rather than centring a motif, though the 39 centimetre repeat still governs where a seam falls. Keep the fullness generous, since a woven texture like this reads best with real depth in the folds. Dry clean the cloth rather than washing it, and never tumble dry it.
