Mulberry Forest is a large-scale wallpaper built around trees and undergrowth, drawn with the same loose, hand-worked quality as the Country Walk fabrics and printed on a smooth non-woven ground. It has real presence at full size, closer to a woodland scene than a repeating botanical, and it is one of the more atmospheric papers in the collection, better suited to a room that wants some depth and shadow to it.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 55.5 centimetre vertical repeat. There are five colourways: Misty Morning, soft and hazy; Blue, cool and clean; Parchment, warm and pale; Lovat, a tweedy green; and Emerald, the richest of the greens. Misty Morning is the one we use most often where a paper needs to feel calm rather than emphatic, and it flatters almost any woodwork colour you choose to pair with it.
We would paper a bedroom or a hallway in it, keeping the furniture and curtains plain so the trees do the work, or use it on a single wall in a dining room. It is also good in a garden room, where the subject suits the setting particularly well. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's paste and match instruction, and centre the first drop on the most visible wall so the composition balances evenly either side. Assuming a standard 10 metre roll, a 4 metre wall with a 55.5 centimetre repeat will need three to four rolls. Buy from one batch.
