Mulberry Garden is a large-scale floral wallpaper, a wall of leaf and bloom drawn with the bohemian looseness that runs through the whole collection and printed on a smooth non-woven paper. The repeat is 55.5 centimetres, so the flowers are full-size, and the drawing has enough stem and foliage between them that the effect is of a planted border rather than a scattered print. It is a paper that turns a plain box of a room into somewhere with a point of view.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 52 centimetres wide, with a 55.5 centimetre vertical repeat, which means a little more waste in matching than a sprig. There are three colourways: Blue/Green is cool and clean; Antique has a warm, tea-coloured ground that is kind to old furniture; and Red/Green is the traditional English one. If you are between two, ask for samples of both and look at them at dusk as well as in daylight.
We would paper a whole bedroom in it and use the matching fabric, which is a cotton and linen print, only on a headboard or a single chair. In a dining room, one papered wall with the others in a plain colour from the ground works well, and in a cloakroom the full pattern on every wall is a pleasure. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: non-woven papers are normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but confirm the paste and match on the leaflet in the roll. Have your decorator centre the first drop on the focal wall so the pattern balances either side of a bed or chimney breast. On a standard 10 metre roll, expect three drops at 2.4 metres with a repeat this size, so a 4 metre wall wants three rolls and a spare. Buy from a single batch.
