Mulberry Sprig is a small-scale botanical from the Print Club wallpapers, a single sprig of leaf and berry repeated closely across a wide, 70 centimetre non-woven paper. It is the kind of pattern that reads as a texture rather than a print from across a room, and it is one of the most versatile papers in the house for exactly that reason. It is drawn with a light, almost hand-inked line rather than a heavy botanical illustration, which keeps it feeling fresh rather than chintzy.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 14.5 centimetre vertical repeat, small enough that waste when matching is minimal. There are four colourways: Espresso is the darkest and most enveloping, Moss and Teal the two greens, one earthy and one cooler, and Ochre the warmest and sunniest of the four.
We would use it on all four walls of a bedroom, a dressing room or a landing, where its small scale means it never overwhelms, or as the backdrop to a wall of framed botanical prints. It also coordinates well with any of Mulberry's small-scale checks and stripes on curtains or upholstery, or with a plain paint colour pulled from one of its greens. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
As a non-woven paper it is usually pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's own paste and match instruction. Because the repeat is small, a standard 10 metre roll should give four to five drops at a 2.4 metre ceiling, so a 4 metre wall takes around two and a half rolls; order a little extra from the same batch.
