Mulberry Thistle takes the thistle, Scotland's own heraldic flower, and draws it at a bold, all-over scale across a smooth non-woven paper. It belongs to the Print Club Wallpaper collection, Mulberry's more graphic, print-led wallpapers, and the thistle heads sit close enough together that the pattern reads as a rich, textural field rather than a series of single flowers. It is a paper with real character, somewhere between botanical and heraldic.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 44 centimetre vertical repeat. There are seven colourways: Plum and Russet are the deep, warm ones; Parchment is the palest and most neutral; Lovat and Green/Teal are the two greens, one softer than the other; Teal stands alone as the coolest; and Ochre brings the most gold into a room. Order two or three samples together before deciding, since the ground colour changes the mood considerably.
We would paper a whole snug or a dining room in it, or use it on the chimney breast wall of a sitting room with the joinery painted to match one of the thistle heads. Parchment works well through a whole house where a bolder colour would tire; Plum or Russet earns its place in a single, well-used room. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is usually pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the exact paste and match. As a rule of thumb, a standard 10 metre roll gives three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls, three if the room has awkward returns. Buy every roll from a single batch to avoid shading between them.
