Mulberry Woodland is a wallpaper of leaf and branch, drawn with the loose, unfussy hand that runs through the whole Country Walk range, so the wall behind it reads as a stand of trees rather than a repeat. It is printed on a smooth non-woven paper, wider than most of Mulberry's rolls at 70 centimetres, which means fewer seams across a wall and a calmer, more continuous canopy effect. It is the sort of paper that makes a room feel as though it opens straight onto the garden.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 55.5 centimetre vertical repeat. There are five colourways, each named for a moment outdoors: Woodsmoke is the smoky, muted one; Misty Morning is pale and cool; Autumn is warm and umber; Spring is fresh and green; and Sunrise carries the most colour, a soft dawn glow through the leaves. Spring and Autumn are the two we are asked for most, as a pair of opposites for rooms that face different ways.
We would paper a whole bedroom or a garden room in it, and keep the curtains plain so the walls do the work. It is also a good choice for a stairwell or a landing, where a continuous run of foliage reads well from more than one angle. In a small cloakroom, a single colourway on every wall is a pleasure rather than a risk. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry, but check the leaflet in the roll for the exact paste and match instruction. Because the roll is wider than usual, a wall needs fewer strips to cover it: a standard 10 metre roll gives three drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Buy all rolls from one batch.
