Nevis takes its name from the Scottish Highlands and its pattern from the hillside: a small, scattered sprig, somewhere between heather and bracken, printed on a smooth non-woven paper. It belongs to the Country Walk Wallpapers collection, and at this modest scale it behaves as a quiet, textural background rather than a statement, the paper equivalent of a good tweed. It is the sort of pattern you notice only once you are close to the wall.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with a 24 centimetre vertical repeat. There are six colourways: Woodsmoke and Antique are the two neutral, easy-to-place options; Amethyst and Sage/Aqua bring in more colour, one cooler and purple-toned, the other a soft blue-green; Stone is the palest; and Teal stands alone as the coolest and most graphic. Antique is the one we turn to most often as a background for a bigger pattern elsewhere in a scheme.
We would paper a whole bedroom or a dressing room in it, or use it behind a display of pictures where a plain wall would feel too bare and a bold print too busy. It is also a useful lining paper for the inside of an alcove or a cupboard, or for a corridor that links a series of more patterned rooms. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste and match. With a repeat this modest, a standard 10 metre roll gives four drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall takes two rolls. Buy every roll from a single batch to keep the colour even.
