New Floral Bouquet is a re-drawing of an earlier Mulberry print, a full, tied bunch of garden flowers set on a cotton and linen ground. The scale is generous, the drawing loose, and there is a good deal of open ground around each bouquet, which is why it manages to be a big floral that does not crowd a room. The cloth itself is a 90 per cent cotton, 10 per cent linen union with a smooth face and a soft, dry hand.
It comes 137 centimetres wide with a 54 centimetre vertical repeat and a wide 68.5 centimetre horizontal one, so each bouquet has room to breathe. It is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Four colourways: Blue/Green, fresh and summery; Indigo, a single-colour version that behaves almost like a toile; Antique, on a warm, aged ground; and Red/Green, the most classically English of the four. Indigo is the one to choose if you want the pattern without a lot of colour.
We would put it on a pair of curtains in a guest bedroom with a plain linen headboard, or on a bedspread with Martock Sprig at the window. It also makes a good loose cover for a small sofa in a garden room. Pair it with Awning Stripe in a related colour to stop the scheme becoming too soft. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
For matching, allow one full 54 centimetre repeat per drop and ask for the bouquets to be placed so a complete one sits just below the heading. On a sofa, centre a bouquet on each back cushion and let the arms take the plainer ground. It should be lined, and it must be dry cleaned rather than washed.
