Nomad is an ikat-inspired print from Mulberry's Long Weekend book, the blurred, hand-dyed-looking edge of a true ikat translated onto a viscose and linen cloth. It has the loose, well-travelled feel of something brought back from further afield than the English countryside, which is exactly the point of the Long Weekend collection, and it sits happily alongside the more traditional florals in the range rather than against them, adding a note of the exotic without shouting about it.

The cloth is 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, which gives it a fluid drape and a soft sheen rather than the drier hand of a pure linen. It is 138 centimetres wide, with a 61 centimetre vertical repeat and a horizontal repeat that runs the full width of the cloth, so the motif reads as continuous rather than tiled. It is recommended for curtains and upholstery. There are four colourways: Plum is the richest and the one we reach for first, Antique the most aged and neutral, and Teal and Sage the two greens, one cool and one soft.

We would use it for curtains in a room that wants a little more warmth and travel than a straight English print, paired with a plain linen or one of the Croft Weaves rather than another bold pattern. It also makes a good upholstered headboard or a pair of cushions on a plain sofa, where the blurred edge of the motif reads as texture rather than a hard-edged print. Because the horizontal repeat spans the full width, there is no side-to-side matching to worry about, but do allow a full vertical repeat per drop and ask your maker to centre the pattern on the width of each curtain. For upholstery, keep the motif whole on any visible panel rather than cutting across it. Dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron.
