Pageant Stripe is a fine, printed cotton stripe with a slightly irregular, hand-drawn edge, part of the same stripes group as Brighton and Cothay but narrower and busier in its banding. It has a festive, bunting-like quality that suits its name, without tipping into anything childish. It is a cheerful, useful cloth for a house that wants colour without a large-scale print, and one that mixes easily with the collection's florals.
It is 100 per cent cotton, 130 centimetres wide, with a fine 2.5 centimetre vertical repeat and a 43.5 centimetre horizontal one setting the width of the banding. Tested to 20,000 rubs on the Martindale scale, it is recommended for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery, though we would keep it to lighter use given the rub count. There are two colourways: Teal, cool and singular, and Multi, which draws on several of the collection's colours across the width and is the busier of the two.
We use it on kitchen chairs, a window seat, or as an unlined curtain in a child's room or a garden room, where its fine banding reads as a pattern rather than a plain from across the room. It also makes a cheerful table runner or a set of napkins for a house that likes its linens to match the curtains, and it is a good cloth for a set of cushions on a plain window seat. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.
A making-up note: because the stripe is fine, matching is straightforward, but ask your maker to keep the bands running true along the selvedge and to match them across any seam. Line curtains for a cleaner fall against the light, and dry clean rather than wash to keep the colours crisp.
