Round The Island is the wallpaper companion to the fabric of the same name, taking the same scatter of small racing pennants and signal flags from Mulberry's Icons collection and setting it on a wide, 70 centimetre non-woven paper. The flags are drawn at a scale that reads as texture from across a room and resolves into individual pennants only on approach, in keeping with the fabric's cheerful, unfussy sailing theme. Like the fabric, it takes its name from a well-known offshore yacht race, and the flags are a nod to the signal code rather than any particular vessel.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven, 70 centimetres wide, with an 86 centimetre vertical repeat. There are four colourways: Indigo and Blue are the two cooler, more nautical options, Antique the softest and most neutral, and Red/Blue the most graphic, pairing directly with the fabric's own palette of the same name, so there is a shade to suit almost any coastal or country scheme.
We would use it in a boot room, a cloakroom or a child's bedroom, where its cheerful theme suits a room that is used rather than just looked at, or on a single feature wall behind a run of framed prints. It pairs naturally with the Round The Island fabric in the same or a related colourway. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
As a non-woven paper it is usually pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the maker's own paste and match instruction. With an 86 centimetre repeat, a standard 10 metre roll gives around three drops at a 2.4 metre ceiling, so allow four rolls for a 4 metre wall from the same batch.
