Vintage Floral is a full, faded bouquet printed on pure linen, with the soft, slightly bleached colouring of an old chintz that has spent years in a sunny window. It belongs to the Country Weekend collection, and it has the unforced, lived-in charm that runs through the whole range: nothing about it looks new, which is exactly the point of a good archive-inspired floral.

The cloth is 100 per cent linen, 134 centimetres wide, with a 69 centimetre vertical repeat and a 67 centimetre horizontal one, a generous, medium-to-large scale. It is recommended for curtains, loose and fixed upholstery and bedspreads. Three colourways: Antique/Rose is the softest, a faded pink on a tea-coloured ground; Coral/Sage pairs a warm coral with a muted green; and Rose/Green is the most traditional of the three. Antique/Rose is the one we use most in a bedroom.

We would put this on a pair of curtains in a guest bedroom, on a loose cover for a small armchair, or as a bedspread with plain linen sheets underneath. It sits well against old brown furniture and a faded rug, and it pairs naturally with a plain wool or a fine stripe from elsewhere in the Country Weekend range. A making-up note: allow one full 69 centimetre repeat per drop for matching, and ask your maker to place a complete bouquet just below the heading. Pure linen moves a little with humidity, so allow a little extra in the hem before the final length is set, and always pre-shrink the cloth before cutting a loose cover. Dry clean only; do not wash, bleach or iron.
