Vintage Leather prints the worn, grained surface of an old hide onto a non-woven paper, a texture paper rather than a pattern, built to read as a wall of aged leather rather than as leather itself. There is no repeat to match, just a fine, mottled surface with the variation a real skin has, which is what gives it depth without a print showing through. It is the sort of paper that makes a library or a study feel properly lived in.
The paper is 100 per cent non-woven and 52 centimetres wide, with no pattern repeat to speak of. There are three colourways: Dove is the palest, a soft, greyed neutral; Chestnut is a warm mid-brown, close to a well-used saddle; and Oak is the deepest and richest of the three. Chestnut is our usual choice for a study; Dove works well where the room needs to stay light.
We would use it on all four walls of a study or a library, or on a single wall behind a desk where the texture reads best close up. It also suits a cloakroom with dark woodwork and brass fittings. Pair it with a plain wool curtain and old leather-bound books, which is exactly the room it is built for. Sold by the roll; order a sample before committing to a full room.
Hanging note: as a non-woven paper it is normally pasted to the wall and hung dry; check the leaflet in the roll for the paste instruction, and because it has no repeat, reverse alternate drops only if the leaflet tells you to. With no matching to allow for, a standard 10 metre roll gives around four drops at 2.4 metres, so a 4 metre wall needs two rolls. Keep to one batch to avoid any shading across the wall.
