Wilderness is a large printed botanical from the Bohemian Romance collection, leaves and undergrowth drawn with a loose, almost tangled hand rather than anything tidy or formal. It is printed on a linen and viscose ground; the viscose lends a soft lustre and a fuller drape than a plain linen would have, while the linen keeps the surface dry enough to take the print cleanly. It is one of the more exuberant prints in the group, the kind that wants a room built around it rather than fitted in afterwards.

The composition is 75 per cent linen, 20 per cent viscose and 5 per cent polyester. It is 128 centimetres wide, with an 80 centimetre vertical repeat and a 64 centimetre horizontal one, a genuinely large scale that needs height to read properly. It is recommended for curtains and both loose and fixed upholstery. There is one colourway, Multi, which pulls together several greens and neutrals from within the collection rather than sitting in a single family.

We would use Wilderness on a pair of full-length curtains in a room with generous ceiling height, or as a loose cover on a single deep armchair rather than a whole sofa, so the print has somewhere to breathe. Keep the walls and the rest of the seating plain. Sold by the half metre; order a sample to see it in your own light.

A making-up note: with an 80 centimetre repeat, budget for at least one extra repeat per drop, and check the calculation with your maker before you order, since a short window will lose a good deal of the design. Line and interline curtains for the best hang, and have the cloth dry cleaned rather than washed.
