Abbotsford is a stripe assembled from blocks of smaller pinstripes, so what reads from a distance as a classic stripe resolves, closer to, into fine parallel lines gathered into bands. That two-scale construction gives it more life than a flat stripe without sacrificing any of its discipline. It is named after Abbotsford, the house built for Sir Walter Scott in the early nineteenth century.
