Alfriston is a textured wool plain woven in contrasting colours, so the cloth carries a two-toned depth, one shade surfacing through another as the light moves. Wool gives it warmth and spring; the two-colour weave keeps it from ever sitting flat.
It is woven in Turkey from 65 per cent wool with viscose and polyester, 139 centimetres wide and substantial at 692 grams per square metre.
With a Martindale figure of 85,000 rubs it is a true workhorse, made for family sofas, dining chairs and daily service, and it makes dense, warm curtains where a wool plain is wanted.
