Altana is an intricate basket-weave, its interlacing drawn in multi-coloured yarns and thickened with a tactile chenille, so the geometry arrives through texture as much as colour. Up close it is all over-and-under detail; across a room it settles into a soft, woven surface with a gentle grid to it.
It is woven in Italy from a mix of viscose, cotton, polyester and linen, 142 centimetres wide and substantial at 500 grams per square metre. The chenille content gives it a warm, brushed hand.
Rated at 20,000 Martindale rubs, it is happiest on chairs, stools and cushions in ordinary domestic use, and it makes handsome, weighty curtains where the texture catches side light.
