Amelie is a plain chenille with the appearance of honeycomb, the pile raised in small cells so the surface carries a fine, regular texture rather than a flat face. The name recalls Amelie Noellie Parayre, whom Matisse married in 1898.

It is woven in Italy from viscose and cotton with polyester, 134 centimetres wide at a comfortable 367 grams per square metre, and the honeycomb structure gives the colour depth as light moves over the cells.

At 70,000 Martindale rubs it is one of the hardest-wearing cloths in the collection, entirely at ease on family sofas, dining chairs and window seats, with enough softness in the chenille to make cushions and curtains as well.
