Ashdown Stripe is an exuberant painterly floral, taken from artwork for a 1920s cushion design and presented as a vertical stripe, so the loose, brushy flowers are held in ordered columns. The tension between the informal painting and the formal stripe is the design's character, garden and architecture in the same cloth.
It is printed in the United Kingdom on a smart linen-viscose ground, 82 per cent viscose and 18 per cent linen, 140 centimetres wide at a substantial 425 grams per square metre.
