Nina Campbell | Bargello

Bargello is a cut velvet chevron, the zig-zag pile set off by contrasting threads of silver and gold, and named after the Renaissance palazzo in Florence. The flame-stitch pattern has been worked in Italy since the seventeenth century, and this reading gives it both texture and a discreet gleam.

Woven in India at 139 centimetres from a blend of viscose, cotton and polyester, the cut pile gives the chevron a soft relief against the ground. A Martindale result of 41,000 rubs suits it to general domestic upholstery — occasional chairs, stools and sofas — as well as cushions, where the metallic thread catches the evening light.
