Bergeret is a textured horizontal stripe, bands of chenille and twisted yarns woven side by side so the stripe is felt as much as seen, each band with its own surface and slight change of height. Run horizontally, it gives furniture a settled, grounded rhythm rather than the formality of a vertical stripe.
It is woven in Italy from viscose and linen with polyester and cotton, 138 centimetres wide, and it is a genuinely heavy cloth at 745 grams per square metre.
Rated at 45,000 Martindale rubs, it is built for serious upholstery, sofas, ottomans, club chairs, where the banding wraps handsomely around solid forms, and its weight makes curtains an occasional rather than a first use.
