Bergonzi alternates two colours of paisley damask palmettes on contrasting grounds, finished with a metallic or mica sheen that lifts the pattern as the light moves. The palmette gives the paper a stately rhythm, while the finish keeps it from ever feeling heavy.

It is named after Carlo Bergonzi of Cremona, considered the greatest pupil of Antonio Stradivari, and there is something of the luthier's craft in its balance of ornament and discipline.
