Bothwell is a two-tone stripe drawn in metallic or mica against a contrasting ground, the bands alternating matt and sheen so the wall changes character as the light moves across it. It takes its name from Bothwell Castle, the largest thirteenth-century stone castle in Scotland, and it has a certain fortified dignity of its own.
Printed in the United Kingdom, it brings structure and a low glimmer to halls, dining rooms and studies, and it is particularly effective by lamplight and candlelight, where the reflective bands come alive. It partners tartans, plains and old portraits with equal ease.
