Brideshead Damask takes an antique damask and weaves it in chenille, so the familiar scrolling forms arrive as texture, pile against flat, rather than as sheen. The effect is of a cloth softened by time, the pattern rising and receding as the light moves over it.
Woven in Turkey from viscose, cotton and polyester at 130 centimetres, it is a deep, weighty cloth with a rub test of 30,000, comfortable on everyday furniture, an armchair, a sofa, a stool, and generous at the window, where it hangs in heavy, architectural folds. It suits rooms that lean traditional but dislike glitter, a library, a study, a drawing room.
