Camille pairs a watercolour-printed sprig with a small-scale embroidered trellis, the two techniques worked together on linen so the printed flowers appear to grow through the stitched framework. The name remembers Matisse's early love, a fittingly romantic note for so delicate a design.
Printed and embroidered in India on an almost pure linen ground at 130 centimetres, the cloth weighs 220 grams per square metre and has a dry, gentle handle. As an embroidered fabric it is best suited to curtains, blinds and cushions, and to occasional chairs spared hard wear — bedrooms and dressing rooms particularly, where its softness belongs.
