Castellane is a damask of stylised pomegranates and leafy forms, printed rather than woven, with batik-like dotted markings that soften the formality the motif usually carries. The herringbone ground shows through the print, so there is a quiet diagonal texture underneath the pattern.
It is printed in the United Kingdom on pure linen, 140 centimetres wide, at a settled 290 grams per square metre, a weight with enough body for furniture and enough drape for windows.
A Martindale rating of 30,000 rubs makes it dependable for everyday upholstery, and as curtains the damask reads at full height the way the motif was always meant to, in long repeating columns.
