Claribel is a woven diamond trellis with contrasting tufts of colour set within the diamonds, small pompom-like risings that turn a sober geometric into something genuinely playful. It is named after Claribel Cone of Baltimore, an important patron of Matisse's work.

It is woven in Italy from 75 per cent cotton and 25 per cent polyester, 125 centimetres wide at 490 grams per square metre, the tufts pleasing to the hand as well as the eye.

Rated at 20,000 Martindale rubs, it suits occasional chairs, stools and cushions especially, and makes charming curtains and blinds in bedrooms and family rooms.
