Nina Campbell | Convivio

Convivio is a damask scroll printed with lacquer, so the traditional motif is delivered as a shift in surface as much as in colour, the lacquered pattern rising glossy against its ground and appearing and receding as the light moves. The name means banquet, and is borrowed from a work by Dante, in keeping with the literary titles of its companions.

It is made in the United Kingdom. Lacquer-printed papers do their best work in rooms used by lamplight, dining rooms above all, halls, studies and cloakrooms, where the scroll glints quietly rather than reading as a flat pattern, and the effect rewards evening rooms far more than bright ones.
