French Gimp is a slender woven gimp, one centimetre wide, from the collection of gimps, ruches, borders and a co-ordinating curtain embrasse that Nina Campbell drew up in the key colours of her decorative palette, conceived to finish the fabrics of her Woodsford and Woodsford Weaves collections and many of her other recent cloths.
It is made in China from a cotton-led blend with polyester, viscose and polyamide, woven firm so it follows a line cleanly. Gimp is the upholsterer's trimming above all, covering the tack line where fabric meets show-wood on chairs and stools, and it serves equally well along cushion seams and lampshade edges.
