Geneviève wallpaper reproduces the bramble rose of the fabric, decorative leaves holding small budding sprigs, from an archive document, and keeps the slightly naive charm of the original drawing. On the wall the roses sit in a loose, open trail, so the paper feels light and airy despite a generous 45 centimetre repeat, and the ivory and linen grounds give it a soft, chalky quality.

Printed in the United Kingdom on a 52 centimetre wide roll of 9 metres, with a 45 centimetre straight-match repeat. It carries the European B-s1,d0 fire classification and the American ASTM E-84 Class A rating, and the finish is matt with a faint texture in keeping with the archival feel.

Four colourways, the same four as the Geneviève linen: Green / Blue / Ivory is cool and classic; Teal / Coral / Ivory the liveliest; Yellow / Sage / Ivory fresh and spring-like; Taupe / Antique Rose / Linen the softest and the one that disappears most gracefully into a neutral scheme. This is a bedroom paper first of all, hung on every wall with the matching fabric as curtains for the traditional approach, or with plain linen and a painted ceiling for something lighter. It is equally good in a bathroom with panelling below, or on the walls of a country cloakroom. Sold by the roll; samples are available so you can see the scale of the roses and the ground colour in your own light.

A printed paper of this character does not want a high-gloss finish or too much bright colour around it; soft whites, stone and old brass are its natural companions. We can advise on whether to hang it on all four walls or to use it above a painted dado, which is often the better solution in a room with a low ceiling.
