Kirkham is an all-over pattern of textured dots, small, regular and softly raised, so the cloth reads as a plain with a pulse. Dots at this scale are less a motif than a surface; they give a single colour rhythm and grain without ever asking to be looked at directly. The name comes from Kirkham House, a medieval stone house in Paignton, Devon.
It is woven in Belgium from 80 per cent cotton and 20 per cent viscose, 137 centimetres wide, with a dry, natural hand.
Rated at 15,000 Martindale rubs, it suits occasional chairs, headboards and cushions, and it makes easy, softly textured curtains and blinds wherever a plain feels too flat.
