Lalita embroiders decorative cartouches on linen grounds, each framed motif worked in stitch so the pattern advances in a stately, even procession across the cloth. Cartouche designs carry a certain formality, ornament contained and repeated, and the embroidery gives each frame genuine relief.

It is embroidered in India on a cloth of 70 per cent linen and 30 per cent polyester, 133 centimetres wide at 321 grams per square metre.

It favours curtains, blinds, cushions and headboards, where the frames can be shown complete, with upholstery kept to occasional pieces that treat the stitching gently.
