Lamballe wallpaper takes the climbing stem of the embroidered fabric and renders it in print: branching leaves and flowers along an undulating trail, with graduated tones of colour standing in for the graduated thread. The design forms a continuous all-over pattern, so on the wall it reads as a soft botanical lattice rather than a series of sprigs, and the scale is generous enough to be seen across a room without dominating it.

It is printed in the United Kingdom on a 52 centimetre wide roll of 9 metres, with a 40 centimetre repeat set half-drop, and it carries the European B-s1,d0 fire classification, which allows it to be used in most commercial as well as residential settings. The finish is matt with a slight texture, in keeping with the archival feel of the collection.

Six colourways make this the most flexible of the Dauphine papers. Yellow and Pink are the sunniest and best for a bedroom or a north-facing room; Duck Egg is the soft, tonal option; Aqua / Ivory, Green / Ivory and Blue / Ivory put the design against a pale ground so it feels fresher and more open. Four of the six correspond to the Lamballe embroidered fabric, and we would use the paper on all four walls of a guest bedroom with the fabric as cushions or a headboard, or paper a small study in the darker Blue / Ivory with plain linen at the window. Sold by the roll; order a sample to see the ground colour and texture in your own light, and allow for the half-drop repeat when calculating quantities.
