Nina Campbell | Maracanda

Maracanda is a richly embroidered design in the manner of Suzani textiles, colourful roundels held within a border of decorative scroll motifs, the whole composition worked in stitch on a pure linen ground. Suzani-derived patterns carry a nomadic, collected quality, and the embroidery gives every motif genuine relief.

It is embroidered in India, the finished cloth roughly half linen and half polyester once the stitching is counted, 136 centimetres wide and substantial at 615 grams per square metre.

With a Martindale rating of 30,000 rubs it will upholster occasional chairs, stools and headboards with confidence, and it is at its most persuasive on curtains, cushions and bedcovers, where the roundels can be shown whole.
